A unique pine tree design of Massachusetts that has both historical and more modern roots. Originally adopted during the Revolutionary War era as the ensign of the Massachusetts Navy, this flag was reauthorized as the official Maritime flag of Massachusetts in 1971. Featuring a classic green New England Pine tree this flag is a great example of early colonial flag design found in the New England Colonies that lives on today. Massachusetts is one of only three states with its own official maritime ensign with the others being Maine and Texas .
