Flag of New England (Continental) with Pine Tree

The Continental New England flag was used to represent the New England territory during the Revolutionary War. The flag is likely derived from the Bunker Hill flag (minus the St. George Cross), which was popularly known as the New England flag until the aftermath of the Battle of Bunker Hill. The choice to omit St. George’s Cross is attributed to two separate explanations: the first being a way to visually represent rebellion against the British. The second is that some colonists disliked the political and religious beliefs associated with the symbol.

It is believed this flag was flown at the Battle of Bunker Hill alongside the Bunker Hill flag. It was given its name to reflect how the New England Army became the Continental Army following the battle.In 1775, George Washington’s military secretary colonel Joseph Reed advocated for all American ships to fly the flag as a way to easily recognize them. His proposal was not adopted but the flag still became a popular symbol of the Revolutionary War era and New England history.

• 12x18” - Used on boats, wall decoration or on stick flags for celebrations
• 2x3’ - A smaller flag size usually used on large boats, RV’s or small flag poles
• 3x5’ - The most common flag size. Used on 6' house-mounted poles or in-ground poles up to 20' tall
• 4x6’ - Traditionally used on 25' tall in-ground flagpoles
• 5x8’ - Made for use on 30' tall in-ground flag poles
• 6x10’ - Made for use on 35' - 40' tall in-ground flagpoles
• Header and Grommet style - This is the most popular way to attach a flag and is used on house mounted poles and in-ground flag poles. Generally made of brass and connected via snap clip or plastic grommet rings like our rotating spinning pole.
