A historic Massachusetts flag, the Endicott flag (a.k.a. Endecott) was created as an act of rebellion, defacing the British Red Ensign over a religous objection to the use of the cross in the canton. Named after John Endicott, then governor of the Massachusetts Colony, this circa 1636 variant is the more accurate, likely design.Â
Another variant, shown HERE, may be more interesting visually, but has scarce and problematic historical reference as to it's provenance.Â
