The Historical Hulbert Flag. Found in 1926 at a home on Long Island once owned by soldier John Hulbert, the origins of this flag are cloudy, with some belief that the flag was used in action during the American Revolution, particularly in Champlain and Fort Ticonderoga. While the 1776- 77 date of alleged creation is unconfirmed, there is speculation that this design may have influenced Hopkinson in his original design of the American Flag. Serious historians consider this unlikely but the flag is most definitely of the Revolutionary War period with its distinctive 6 pointed stars set in an usual pattern.
