At Gettysburg Flag Works, we are committed to working with and donating to local veteran organizations. Each year, we take part in a number of community events and donate our products to local veterans groups and civil service associations. It’s our way of saying “thanks” to all the people we serve, and, more importantly, to all the people who serve us.
Opendoor™
Homeownership has long been one of the prime milestones of the American dream. It represents a place where memories are made, traditions begin, and families put down roots for generations to come. At Gettysburg Flag Works, we've always believed there's no better way to celebrate that dream than by proudly displaying the American flag. So in the summer of 2026 we announced our new partnership with Opendoor™, helping deliver the Stars and Stripes—and everything needed to fly it—to new homeowners across the nation.
Opendoor™ is a U.S. real estate technology company that prides itself on making the homeownership process simpler, faster, and better for the homeowner. They’re changing the system, ensuring a better experience for homeowners, when you’re buying or selling your home. Opendoor’s CEO Kaz Nejatian put it simply, he wants the company to be “the most Pro-American family tech company”. For him, achieving this involved ensuring that every “Opendoor™ home will come with an American flag and a flag pole”. And that’s where we come in. Every home sold through Opendoor™ is eligible for a complimentary Battle-Tough® American flagpole kit.
We’ve always believed that the American flag is an incomparable symbol of freedom and the American spirit, that we fly with only the utmost care. We take it seriously, producing only the highest quality products made to be flown with pride and honor. This partnership represents our ongoing commitment to those beliefs, celebrating new homeowners with a product that makes a house feel like a home.
Tunnel To Towers Foundation
For years, we've proudly supported the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in the way we know best—by providing flags for their annual golf tournament. The T2T Foundation was established by the Siller family to honor the memory of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who lost his life on September 11, 2001. Stephen was on his way to play golf with his brothers when he heard the news of the first plane hitting the North Tower. Instead of continuing his day, he rushed to the scene and sacrificed his life to save others.
The foundation's mission is to honor the sacrifices made by Stephen and other first responders, as well as military members, who have given their lives in service. They fulfill this mission with incredible dedication—putting 95% of all fundraising directly into the programs they run, ensuring the support reaches those who need it most.
Recently, we had the honor of participating in an event put on by the Old Town Run Club,that commemorated the events of September 11th. We supported and joined a team run from the Pentagon on Sunday, September 8th, all the way to Ground Zero at the 9/11 Memorial on the morning of the 11th. It was truly meaningful to contribute our time and resources to a cause that holds such deep significance.

Mission 22 - Ending Veteran Suicide
Mission 22 is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting U.S. veterans and their families, with a primary focus on combating veteran suicide. The name "Mission 22" reflects the organization's commitment to addressing the tragic statistic that, on average, 22 veterans die by suicide each day—a figure that has since been updated to approximately 20 per day.
Founded in 2013 by Magnus Johnson, a former Special Forces operator, Mission 22 has grown into a comprehensive support system for veterans. The organization has served over 6,000 veterans and families, invested more than $13 million into its free programs that address:
- Programs for veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress (PTS), traumatic brain injury (TBI), and military sexual trauma through personalized coaching, optimal nutrition, physical fitness, and mental wellness. Notably, the Recovery + Resiliency (R+R) program has shown promising internal results, with veterans reporting significant reductions in PTS symptoms.
- Initiatives aimed to foster wellness at home, providing resources and guidance to help families navigate the challenges associated with military service and reintegration into civilian life.
- Collaborations with partner organizations, doctors, and treatment facilities across the country to ensure comprehensive care in all communities.
We are proud to offer our own suicide prevention flag that donates directly to their cause. A large portion of every flag sale goes directly to the organization. For more information or to get involved, visit Mission 22.
Giving Back On Veteran's Day
Each year, we at Gettysburg Flag Works honor our local heroes with a special Veteran’s Day tradition. We ask the community to nominate those they think deserving of a surprise flagpole installation at their home.
In 2023, Tom Regan, became the first local veteran to receive a surprise flagpole from us. A Vietnam War veteran, Tom vowed to never forget his four friends lost during the war. Starting in 2013, Tom kicked off the Please Remember Me organization with the help of fellow veteran Gene Loparco. Each year on Memorial Day, the pair display American flags on telephone poles down Route 9 from the border of Albany to the heart of Latham. Each flag represents 10 Albany area heroes that died fighting for our country. It’s Tom’s mission to ensure that their sacrifice will never go forgotten. When brainstorming a way to thank a local veteran on Veteran’s Day, Tom was the first choice. Honoring not only his service to our country, but his commitment to the community and the fallen.
In 2024, Scott Gallerie was chosen to receive a flagpole honoring his service to our nation. In high school, Scott joined the Army National Guard and at just 18 years old he became the youngest soldier in his unit to deploy. Joining Operation Iraqi Freedom, he served with the 82nd Airborne in Iraq and Kuwait as part of the 1156 Engineer Company. Throughout his service, he earned many awards and medals in recognition of his bravery including: the Army Commendation Medal with “C” Device, the War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, among others. He continues to embody the spirit of resilience and patriotism, juggling full-time work and school while rebuilding his father’s homestead. The same house where his grandfather once flew a flag, he’s been wanting his own flagpole for years. We were thrilled and honored to present Scott with one, knowing it’d be treated with the utmost care and respect.
Most recently, in 2025, Joe was nominated to receive a flagpole from a group of his friends. Joe served in the Army for 28 years, but his service didn’t stop there. Upon returning, he set out to help his community through the VA and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Joe worked his way up to Commander of the DAV in Troy, N.Y., constantly putting the needs of veterans first. Every year, he works tirelessly to raise money for veteran organizations and donates every penny to the cause. Joe goes above and beyond, helping fellow community members who need help most. His love for his community was evident, being joined by a group of friends, all fellow veterans, to surprise him with his brand new flagpole.
Giving back to our community matters to us. And honoring local veterans who epitomize the American spirit matters even more. The Stars and Stripes are an incomparable symbol of freedom and honor. It’s our privilege to give that symbol to veterans who reflect those values day in and day out. Stay tuned as we continue to celebrate and support our nation’s heroes every single year!
Operation: Please Remember Me
The GFW team works with this organization on its annual community project, which involves hanging flags from more than a hundred utility poles on Route 9 in Latham NY between Memorial Day and July Fourth to memorialize local military personnel who died fighting for our country. Special Operations Xcursions
Special Ops Xcursions, is a nonprofit organization we've supplied flags for and developed a wonderful relationship with. It is dedicated to assisting Special Operations families, teams, and individuals by offering retreats and events for relaxation between deployments. Their activities range from hunting, fishing, and kids camps... all the way to family field days, trap and skeet shooting, archery range days and African Safaris!

Black Dagger Military Hunt Club
We were proud to Partner with this non-profit veteran organization to be part of a very special 75th Anniversary of D-Day Celebration in Normandy France.
Black Dagger Military Hunt Club is a non-profit organization, offering veterans and active duty military (both wounded and well) a range of outdoor opportunities, including shooting, hunting, fishing, and more. They collaborate with other veteran groups and non-profit organizations and have dedicated volunteers, many of whom are retired or active duty military personnel, that bring tactical and hunting expertise to their endeavors.
American Cancer Society
We are a proud sponsor of the RED WHITE & BLUE Party, hosted annually in Saratoga Springs NY.
The Red, White & Blue Party stands out as a unique fundraising gathering that brings together professionals and philanthropic leaders from diverse age groups and industries. The event is dedicated to rallying support for the American Cancer Society's mission, which aims to enhance the well-being of individuals facing cancer and their families. This mission is pursued through advocacy, research, and patient support, with the ultimate goal of providing everyone with the chance to prevent, detect, treat, and overcome cancer.

Our team has donated products to help Rolling Thunder build a POW-MIA Chair at Albany International Airport, and raise awareness for prisoners of war and missing in action service members.
