President’s Day is a Designated Flag Flying Holiday

President’s Day is celebrated on the third Monday of February each year, and is a designated flag flying holiday. Popularly seen as a day to recognize the lives and achievements of all U.S. presidents, the holiday was originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington and later President Abraham Lincoln, both of whom were born in February.

The Washington’s Cruisers Flag was one of the pine tree flags of the American Revolution, flown by a squadron of six warship cruisers commissioned under General George Washington in 1775, while the Lincoln Election Flag was used to advertise Lincoln’s candidacy during the 1860 presidential campaign.
