This iteration of the Gettysburg, PA flag was officially adopted in March 2003, a stylized version of the Borough’s official seal. The white symbol of the flag represents Lincoln Square, Gettysburg’s “historic crossroads”. The three stars symbolize the three days in which the Battle of Gettysburg took place. It also is representative of the three wards that the Borough is divided in. The red, white and blue is a nod to the significance of Gettysburg in American history while the blue field with gold stars denotes the Pennsylvania state colors. The flag is also designated as the “house flag” of the USS Gettysburg, a guided missile cruiser for the United States Navy. The ship flies the flag into battle and on special occasions.
