The United States Army Air Corps (USAAC) is the predecessor of the United States Air Force. It operated as part of the Department of the Army until 1947 when the USAAC was abolished and officially replaced by the Department of the United States Air Force. During the existence of the USAAC, the Hap Arnold symbol, as seen on this flag, was the official emblem. While no longer the official symbol of the Air Force, the Hap Arnold symbol is still synonymous with the United States Air Force and widely used and recognized to honor the valiant service of the original AAC cadre.
