Seychelles Flag

The flag of Seychelles is a vibrant and dynamic symbol that reflects the nation's history, political evolution, and cultural identity. Featuring five oblique bands of blue, yellow, red, white, and green, radiating from the bottom left corner, the flag represents a young, forward-moving country full of energy and unity. Each color carries deep meaning: blue symbolizes the sky and sea, yellow represents the life-giving sun, red stands for the determination and love of the people, white signifies justice and harmony, and green honors the natural environment of the islands. Seychelles first adopted a national flag in 1976 upon gaining independence from the British Empire. That original design featured blue and red triangles separated by a white saltire. In 1977, a new flag was introduced with red and green fields divided by a white wavy line. The current flag, adopted on January 8, 1996, was created to represent unity among the country’s major political parties. Notably, the red, white, and green stripes acknowledge the legacy of the Seychelles People's United Party.
