Roosterfish Fun Facts

Scientifically named Nematistius Pectoralis, these fish reside in the warm shallow waters of the eastern Pacific. Seven spines on their dorsal fin resemble the crown of a rooster, the inspiration for their name. Despite not being protected by law, almost all captains practice catch-and-release for these fish. Located primarily in Central America, the largest roosterfish caught weighed 114 lbs. They’re known to patrol rocky coastlines and islands but are also prominent just behind the surf on sandy bottoms.
