Noise-Reducing Flagpole Snap Cover
If your flagpole sounds like a wind chime every time the breeze picks up, the metal flag snap banging against the pole is almost always the cause. A snap cover is the simplest, most effective fix we've found — a thick soft-plastic sheath that slips over the snap body, cushioning every contact with the pole. It quiets the clang and keeps the snap from chipping the pole's finish over time.
We carry two sizes: a standard 3" cover that fits most flag snaps, and an oversized 5" cover for the larger snaps used on bigger flags.
Which Size Do You Need?
Snap covers are sized by the snap body — not the flag size — so the right cover depends on the snap you're using.
Standard 3" cover fits most flag snaps in the 3.25" range — the kind used on residential and most commercial flagpole halyards. Oversized 5" cover fits the larger snaps typically paired with 8x12' flags and up. If you're not sure which snap you have, measure the overall length of the snap from end to end.

The covers fit both swivel snaps and fixed-position snaps — they're sized to the snap body, not the bail or loop end.
Does It Actually Quiet the Noise?
Honestly, this is the best option we've found for dampening flagpole snap noise. It won't make your pole completely silent in a strong wind, but compared to bare metal snaps — or any of the other fixes people try — soft plastic snap covers make a meaningful, audible difference. The thick plastic absorbs the impact instead of transmitting it through the pole.
If you're starting from scratch and haven't bought snaps yet, our Rubber-Coated Brass Swivel Snap solves the same problem in a single piece — the rubber coating is bonded directly to the snap. The two products are alternatives, not companions, so pick one approach or the other.
Color and Size Options
Standard 3" Cover
Fits most flag snaps in the 3.25" range. Available in white or opaque brown. White suits white and silver flagpoles; opaque brown blends with bronze and dark-finished poles.
Oversized 5" Cover
Sized for the larger snaps used on big flags — typically 8x12' and above.
Installation
Snap covers install the same way you'd attach the snap itself — the cover just goes on the snap first.
- Remove the existing snap from your halyard (or start fresh with a new snap).
- Slide the cover over the snap body so the snap is sheathed inside the cover.
- Thread the halyard through the snap's eye and tie it off the same way you would without a cover.
Once installed, the cover sits between the snap and the pole every time the wind pushes the halyard against the flagpole — that's where the noise reduction comes from.
If you've never attached a flag snap to a halyard before, the same method applies — just with the cover on the snap first. Our snap installation video walks through the knot.
Compatible Snaps
The standard 3" cover works with most of the flag snaps we carry, including:

Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit my flagpole snap?
The standard 3" cover fits most snaps in the 3.25" body-length range, which covers nearly every residential and commercial flag snap we sell. The oversized 5" cover fits the larger snaps used on 8x12' flags and up. Measure your snap end to end if you're unsure.
How do I install a snap cover?
The snap threads into the cover first, then the assembly loops onto the halyard the same way the snap normally would. There's no separate cover hardware — it just sleeves over the snap. Our snap installation video walks through the halyard knot.
Standard or oversized — which do I need?
Most customers want the standard 3" cover. The oversized 5" is for the noticeably larger snaps used on bigger flags — typically 8x12' and above. If you're flying a residential or standard commercial flag, the standard size is almost certainly what you need.
Will it really quiet the clanging?
In our experience, it's the most effective option available for dampening snap-on-pole noise. It won't make a windy day silent, but the difference between a bare metal snap and a covered snap is significant. The thick soft plastic absorbs impacts that bare metal transmits straight into the pole.
What's the difference between white and opaque brown?
Both standard-size covers are functionally identical — only the color differs. White is the most common choice and pairs naturally with white or silver flagpoles. Opaque brown is a solid (non-translucent) brown that blends with bronze, dark-finished, and wood-toned poles.
Can I use this on a marine or saltwater flagpole?
The plastic itself holds up fine in marine environments — it's not affected by salt the way uncoated metal hardware can be. For saltwater use, we'd still recommend pairing the cover with a stainless steel or marine-grade snap underneath, since the snap itself is the part that takes the corrosion hit.
