This historical flag is similar to our Washingtons Cruisers flag but with the alternate wording of Appeal to God rather than Appeal to Heaven. The Liberty Tree was a symbol of the times and reportedly was the meeting place for the Sons of Liberty to gather in Boston and air their grievances and plans for the future. The Liberty tree was chopped down by the British which further inflamed tensions in the build up to the Revolutionary War. The flag also features sewn blue stripes above and below the printed central field of the flag and was used by Colonial Americans as an appeal to freedom from the tyranny of distant kings and a desire to have an America self determination.
