The Pledge of Allegiance

Original pledge written by Francis Bellamy and published in The Youth's Companion on September 8, 1892:

I pledge allegiance to my Flag, and to the
Republic for which it stands, one nation
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Common pledge used in class, written in 1954:

I pledge allegiance to the Flag
of the United States of America , and to the
Republic for which it stands, one nation
under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Pledge spoken today in America's schools:

I pledge allegiance to the Flag
of the United States of America, and to the
Republic for which it stands, one nation,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
