October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and, throughout the U.S., people are \u201ctickled pink\u201d to show their support for those affected by breast cancer, and raise awareness and funds to help save lives. From fundraisers to breast cancer awareness products, here are a just a few of the ways you can participate in the annual movement.<\/p>\n

Host a Fundraiser<\/h3>\n

\"ZumbathonAnyone can host a fundraiser for breast cancer research, treatment and education, and there are a number of organizations out there that offer step-by-step guides and tools to help you get started. Both the National Breast Cancer Foundation<\/a> and Susan G. Komen<\/a> are great resources, and if hosting an event isn\u2019t for you, they also make it easy to donate or join an existing fundraiser.<\/p>\n

Participate in a Walk<\/h3>\n

Each year, hundreds of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer\u00ae<\/a> walks are held across the country to raise money to help the American Cancer Society fund breast cancer research and provide patients with free rides to chemo and places to stay near treatment, as well as a live 24\/7 cancer helpline. You can lead your own Making Strides team, join a walk near you, or make a donation on their website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Get a Mammogram<\/h3>\n

Breast cancer awareness starts with you! Learn about the warning signs<\/a>, which include a lump in the breast, a change in breast tissue, nipple tenderness or milky discharge, and find out how to perform breast self-examinations<\/a>. Schedule your annual mammogram, and encourage your friends and family to do the same. You may even be eligible for free or low-cost screenings<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dye a Strand of Hair Pink<\/h3>\n

Want to make a bold statement that shows you care? Dye your hair! Many salons across the country offer specials on pink extensions or will dye a strand of your hair pink at a discounted rate. Some salons even offer #gopink days during October, donating their time and a portion of the proceeds to breast cancer research.<\/p>\n

Display those Pink Ribbons<\/h3>\n

\"PinkThe simplest way to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month is by wearing and displaying a Pink Ribbon \u2013 the international symbol of breast cancer awareness. Adding a Facebook frame<\/a>, making a pink ribbon lapel pin,\u00a0<\/a>and displaying breast cancer awareness products, such as\u00a0pink ribbon flags<\/a>, are all great ways to show your support for those impacted by breast cancer.<\/p>\n
