If you subtract 150 from 237, you get a number associated with Abraham Lincoln.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/A-Union-soldier-poses-with-flags.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-272 \" title=\"A Union soldier poses with flags\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/A-Union-soldier-poses-with-flags-270x300.jpg\" alt=\"A Union soldier poses with flags\" width=\"216\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/A-Union-soldier-poses-with-flags-270x300.jpg 270w, https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/A-Union-soldier-poses-with-flags.jpg 925w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 216px) 100vw, 216px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>A Union soldier poses with flags<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The twin historic conflicts, which spanned the country from Pennsylvania to the Mississippi River, raged simultaneously and ended with Union victories on July 4, 1863.<\/p>\n<p>Remarking a few days later on the triumph in Vicksburg, The New York Times noted that \u201cthe <a title=\"Mississippi flags\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/outdoor-mississippi-state-flag-new-magnolia-design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">State of Mississippi<\/a> [seceded] on the 9th day of January 1861. Four days afterward, the Governor\u2026ordered artillery to Vicksburg\u2026.From that time until the Fourth of July 1863 \u2013 a period of nearly two years and a half \u2013 there has been no passing of that point on the great river\u2026.For the last four days, the passage has again been free to the <a title=\"American Flag\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/american-flags\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">American flag<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The significance of the date of the victories was not lost on President Lincoln.
