Three <a title=\"American flags\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/american-flags\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">American flags<\/span><\/a> that may have been involved with major events in his life and death reside around the U.S. \u2013 maybe.<\/p>\n<h3>FLAG #1: Three score and four stars<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"figure alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Lincolns-home-draped-in-mourning-and-flags.-Library-of-Congress.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Lincolns-home-draped-in-mourning-and-flags.-Library-of-Congress-300x278.jpg\" alt=\"Lincoln's home, draped in mourning and flags. (Library of Congress)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of the most famous speeches in history was delivered in 1863 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, when Lincoln spoke about the meaning of the Civil War. Union College in \u2013 where else? \u2013 Lincoln, Nebraska, thinks it might have an American flag that flew there that November day<\/p>\n<p>Using genealogy and vexillology, researcher Sabrina Riley has weighed the evidence, pro and con, that the 34-star flag was there. But that\u2019s the rub. \u201cWe do know that at least three new<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/historical-american-35-star-flag\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> 35-star flags<\/span><\/a> were created specifically for the dedication of the cemetery,\u201d she wrote. \u201cOne was\u2026on the flag pole on stage visible in the photographs of the occasion.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>FLAG #2: Ford\u2019s Theater\u2019s bloody flag<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"figure alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/This-1865-sheet-music-features-a-praying-angel-mourning-woman-and-Lincoln.-Library-of-Congress.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/This-1865-sheet-music-features-a-praying-angel-mourning-woman-and-Lincoln.-Library-of-Congress-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"This 1865 sheet music features a praying angel, mourning woman and Lincoln. (Library of Congress)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After Lincoln was shot on Good Friday 1865 in Ford\u2019s Theater, he was laid on the floor of the box he had been seated in. As an actress in the play rested his bleeding head on her lap, an actor pulled down a flag decorating the space to bunch under his head.<\/p>\n<p>That flag now resides at the Pike\u00a0County Historical Society in Pennsylvania. The <a title=\"36-star-spangled banner\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/historical-american-36-star-flag\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">36-star-spangled banner<\/span><\/a> has been authenticated through two methods. First, the actor kept the flag and passed it down through generations. Chain of custody is one proof.<\/p>\n<p>As for the stains, the museum says that \u201ctests confirmed that the stains on the flag are human blood\u201d and are \u201cconsistent with a bleeding wound coming into direct contact with the flag.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"American flag that cradled Lincoln's head\" href=\"https:\/\/uau.edu\/201141215\/the-mystery-of-the-gettysburg-flag\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here to see the article and flag<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>FLAG #3: Coverlet for a martyr<\/h3>\n<figure class=\"figure alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/A-flag-hangs-behind-the-Gettysburg-crowd-surrouding-Lincoln.-Library-of-Congress.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/A-flag-hangs-behind-the-Gettysburg-crowd-surrouding-Lincoln.-Library-of-Congress-300x245.jpg\" alt=\"A flag hangs behind the Gettysburg crowd surrounding Lincoln. (Library of Congress)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When Lincoln drew his last breath on April 15, 1865, he was in a rooming house across from the theater. According to the Chicago History Museum, arrangements were made to cover (or perhaps wrap) his body with an American flag as he was carried outside to a hearse.<\/p>\n<p>A <a title=\"34 Star Flag\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/34-star-union-civil-flag\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">34-star flag<\/span><\/a> \u201cwas brought there,\u201d the Museum discloses, \u201cperhaps by the Union army soldiers summoned by Secretary of War Edwin M.
