Photo courtesy of Karen Horton<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\">Labor Day in the USA is the first Monday in September.\u00a0 It is a celebration of the American labor movement and is dedicated to the achievements of America&#8217;s workers, both economic and social.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Because Labor Day is a celebration, and not a day of mourning, it is a full-staff day, where the <a title=\"American flag\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/battle-toughr-nylon-american-flag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">American flag<\/span><\/a> flies proudly at the top of flagpoles\u00a0throughout the country.\u00a0 You will also see many of them waved at Labor Day parades throughout the country where American workers will take to the streets to celebrate. <a title=\"Flag code\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/flag-code\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Flag code<\/span><\/a> says that the American flag should be displayed on all days, but names special days where flying your flag is especially important.\u00a0 Labor Day is among the special days mentioned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The parts of <a title=\"flag etiquette\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/fly-flag-half-mast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">flag etiquette<\/span><\/a> that will be tested on Labor Day in the USA,\u00a0pertain to how the flag is treated and used.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"figure alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/thegreiner\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/IBEW-electricians-labor-day-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"The IBEW electricians walk in Peoria, Illinois\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><figcaption>The IBEW electricians walk in the Peoria, Illinois, Labor Day parade. Photo courtesy of Shaun Greiner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">The flag should never touch the ground.\u00a0 Parade goers should be very careful not to drop the flag or allow it to drag on the ground.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\"><span class=\"s1\">The flag should not be worn.\u00a0 This rule is very commonly disregarded.\u00a0 It was added to flag code <\/span>to limit the commercial or common usage of the flag and, thus, maintain its dignity. Code was edited to allow for the use of <a title=\"flag pins\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gettysburgflag.com\/flags-banners\/lapel-pins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">pins<\/span><\/a> or <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">patches<\/span> on uniforms, or as a patriotic gesture.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. Companies, politicians and organizations are welcome to display their flags proudly, but should not use it as an advertisement.\u00a0 The flag is not a commercial symbol.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li3\">The flag should not be used to cover a table and items should not be placed on the flag.\u00a0 The flag is a symbol of a proud nation and should not take the place of a tablecloth, blanket, towel or other disposable product.
