Summer\u00a0is here, and it\u2019s a great time\u00a0to celebrate holidays of remembrance, holidays of Independence, and overall summer festivities. While there are many great ways to celebrate these patriotic holidays, we must ensure that in our celebration with food and festive d\u00e9cor, we\u2019re not inadvertently dishonoring American flags or the servicemen\/women whom we\u2019re trying to recognize. <\/p>\n

For all of us at Gettysburg Flag Works, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July are some of our favorite holidays. Therefore, we\u2019re going to help you get some tips and ideas for throwing a great party, all while honoring the symbol of the day: the American Flag<\/a>.
\nFirst things first \u2013 every great patriotic party this weekend has to be festively decorated:<\/p>\n

Did you know Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day<\/a>? There\u2019s no better way to get the party started by expertly decorating your house, yard, and barbecue to set the mood. These suggestions are great because while patriotism is a theme throughout, none is actually using the American flag in an inappropriate way. For crafts and decorations, try to avoid altering or using the flag in any way that would change its significance as a flag.
\nNext (and perhaps most important)\u00a0is having fabulous food. We all love to eat around here, and while some of these may be borrowed from a July 4th party, think they will be great for our Memorial Day parties as well.<\/p>\n

When it comes to food and desserts, a red, white and blue theme is wonderful, but avoid using a likeness of the actual American flag. While it may look nice at first, it might not look so great half-eaten in all the family pictures.
\nWhat better way to wash down all that food, than with some fun patriotic drinks? All of these drinks can be made for the whole family, or for adults only \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

While we are all for red, white, and blue themed d\u00e9cor, if you are going to use the flag, or an image of the flag, always make sure it\u2019s displayed in an honorable way.<\/p>\n
