Six Flags
If you haven't been to a theme park
owned by Six Flags, you have at least heard of one. This theme
park company owns 30 of the theme parks found in North America.
Although, Six Flags, Inc. is the largest them park company in
the world with theme parks spread all over North America, it all
started in Texas.
In fact, the name Six Flags came
from the six different national flags that have flow over Texas
during the history of the state. The United States flag, Texas
flag, Confederate flag, Mexican flag, French flag, and the Spanish
flag have all flown over Texas at some point in the state's history.
Planning for the original Six Flags
theme park, Six Flags over Texas, began in 1959. Construction
followed a year later and by August 5, 1961, the park opened to
the public.
Attendance was recorded at 8,374 excited people. Each adult paid
only $2.75 while children's tickets sold for $2.25 a piece.
Between 1961 and 1969, the ten rides
offered to the park enthusiasts were the Six Flags Railroad, Chaparral
Cars, Casa Magentica, the Flume Ride, the Silver Star Carrousel,
the Cave Ride, El Sombrero, Runaway Mine Train, Tower, and the
Mini-Mine Train. These rides are the history of the Six Flags
amusement park.
Today, admission to Six Flags over
Texas will cost an adult $41.99 at the park, though only $29.99
when you purchase online. Children under 2 years old can expect
free admission and those individuals less than 48 inches in height
can expect to dish out $26.99.
It is worth the extra money when
you consider how many rides have been added to Six Flags over
Texas. In fact, there are now a number of attractions, even beyond
rides, that are being added all of the time. In fact, this year
you can choose between Spirit of the Dance, the Amazing Acrobats
of China, and the World of Puppets show.
