Fall Checklist |
You
are PROUD of your flag, so keep it flying freely in the breeze
where everyone can enjoy it. Don’t get caught this
winter waiting on replacement parts or coming home to a disgraceful
tattered flag. Use these 6 simple steps!

- Halyard (rope) -
Look for fraying or wear that could be a weak spot. If your
halyard hasn’t been replaced in a
few years, it’s time. It’s much more difficult
to replace the halyard when the old one has broken and fallen
out of the pulley!
- Snaps (plastic or metal) - Look for cracks
or wear that will cause failure. Cold weather weakens these
materials further and replacing them early will save you days
without your flag flying, waiting for replacements to arrive.
- Paint or Finish on
your pole - If it’s
peeling or chipping, a touch up is in order. Especially for
steel poles because this finish is a protective coating against
rust, which will stain your flag and weaken the pole.
- Flag Wear - Look for places that can be repaired. Cold winter
winds, snow and ice will destroy a flag that is already weakened.
A repair could be the difference between a new flag in a week,
or several months down the road.
- Flag Material
and Size - When the weather is bad, a smaller
or heavy duty flag will last longer and save you money.
- While you’re
out there... mulch your plants! You want them to come up
strong next year right?
