The Republic
of Ireland Flag has been in use since 1916. It was recognized
in 1922 and formally confirmed in 1937. Based on the French
Tricolore, it has three vertical sections. The green represents
the Catholics. The orange represents the Protestants. The
white stands for peace between the two. The Republic of Ireland
makes up most of the area on the island of Ireland in Northwest
Europe. |
